It's Great. It's Blue. It's a Heron.

It's a Great Blue Heron!
Last month on our way home from Pittsburgh, we stopped at McConnell's Mill State Park. As the name implies, it's the site of an old mill.
While we were admiring the view of the river and mill, imagine our surprise when a Great Blue Heron glided in to look for some food.
I was amazed that he didn't seem to be bothered by any of us, who were just 30 or so feet away. (Usually around here, herons are pretty shy.)
We watched him hunt around for a good 15 or 20 minutes. He lunged and seemed to come up empty a couple of times... and he strutted around trying to find the best spot.In the end, his perseverance (and ours) was rewarded.

Great close-ups. How far where you from him and what lens did you use?

Great captures!

Our Sand Hill cranes (related to the heron) are very people friendly. Some even hang out at Arby's looking for scraps.
