Cold-Weather Sentries

Consider if you will the lowly Canada goose.
There is an overabundance of these birds here. Mostly, they're poop machines, although they're pretty to look at sometimes.
Last week we saw a bunch on the ice when we stopped for pictures.
You can see how most of them are hunkered down and huddled together.
But there's one guy at the front of the pack...like he's standing watch over the rest.
And who can blame him for having his head tucked back under his wing? It's pretty damn cold out there.

Goodness. I think it looks colder there than it does here. I always kind of wonder what those ducks are thinking...do they think its cold too? Great captures.

That is a lot of geese! We have geese on our lake and a few swans. Boy are they territorial! It looks like it is a bit nippy there. :-)

Cool captures! And we know what a nuisance they can be for planes. ;)

And to think it was these innocent looking birds that took down that passenger jet in NYC today.
