This group wasn't too shy! We pulled into the parking lot and the turkeys headed out toward the road, where they happily moved back and forth, hunting and pecking through the leaves. 
I was surprised at how close they let me get...
but then this biker rode through and they didn't even get their feathers ruffled!
And this shot is slightly out of focus, but I loved the wings! (Showoff!)

So I'm reading a memoir by Azadeh Moaveni called Lipstick Jihad.
"The barriers here were overwhelming, in your face, physical and visual. There were walls and partitions, dour billboards and angry-looking pasdars, around at all times to enforce them. I wasn't sure which ones I preferred, or perhaps better, which ones I despised least."

cool! I've not seen turkeys out and about before. love how you caught them in their element.
I've been seeing so many turkeys in the last four to five years. It's cool how they've made a resurgence. I've never gotten photos as good as your though, and I've tried!

Many years ago, I took pictures (primarily people) and they invariably said "stop" or words to that effect.
Today, those same people come to me and ask for pictures from days of yore.
it is a delight to share all that you accumulate.
I was sorry to see the addition of "AOMA", scripted over your wonderful pictures lately.
I suppose the legalities make it prudent, but unless it is a business for profit, I do not see the benefit of the script. Your pictures have long spoken for themselves, and your blog time record, protects that they are yours. Forgive my digression.
Lately, I have tried to find time to combine multiple venues in Erie.
My collection includes, for example, an "11 miles to the Boston Store Erie" pole, found on Lake Pleasant Road, PLUS a "14 Miles to the Boston Store Erie" pole, that I took yesterday on Route 5 toward Lake City near the Gables.
There is one more I saw enroute to a wedding at a chapel by the NY/PA state line on lower Route 5. I do not recall the mile post number. I need to get that one, and finally a snap of the actual Boston Store today.
I want to frame and mat all four pictures together for my living room, with all the old markers to a very current location.
It brings along many memories of shopping on the various floors at the Store coming alive.
Coming back into Erie yesterday, grape vines gave me an enormously stark picture of hidden strength as they prepare for a brutal winter.
The sun was still high late in the day and I passed a peach grove.
Most peach tree leaves toward the bottom of rows and rows of trees had fallen off. But the top leaves were all on and pointing sky ward.
They are golden color now.
The sun was at an angle to light each leaf "within" like a lantern.
The background sky was crystal clear blue, and a bright half-moon, suspended above the grove.
I took several pictures of these lit-up-leaves-of-gold, and call my photo "Peach Praise", as they point to the heavens, moon, and beyond...for their final days of glory.
A spectacular Weeping Willow is on the North side of the road, west of Fairplane Rd a ways. This tree is eloquent and grandeur at once, carrying burdens with dignity. It is starting to molt, so time is of the essence. My shots yesterday were extraordinary, due to colorful backgrounds.
Drive to Route 98 (Fairview is Rt 20; Avonia is Rt 5) and head North to the lake. The best days are behind us, but the salmon and steelhead have been enormous and huge in quantity. They are so large in the tiny stream that the backs of the fish stick out of the water.
Take some photos of 300 fishermen in the water, all in a line trying to catch one before they enter the stream (protected at that point).
The fish leap in the air to their source. I have awesome shots of trout leaping mini waterfalls, at the lake end, of a two-mile stream. My dad helped start with the introduction of this species into Lake Erie decades ago.
You will find both at Elk Creek and at Walnut Creek.
I stopped at Walnut Creek coming home. Go North on Manchester Road. The fishermen are gathered in the best 'holes", the water ripples enroute to the lake. I faced from the lower bridge and looked south. Huge colorful trees overhang the stream, fishermen hidden below.
That same bright moon was above the tree and I snapped the panorama of Heaven, Earth, Men, and activity, all orchestrated by His hands at once as an Opus to a wonderful life being lived by those fishermen now.
Downstream, I went right on the beach. Salmon are coming home to these streams from all parts of Lake Erie. I saw a fellow reeling one in and snapped the progress, and finally him holding the fish. It was nearly as long as his leg.
A lonely boat was offshore.
I opened the landscape to take in the boat, the beach, the spread trees and a sinking, blood-red 3/4 sun dipping into the lake.
My picture of salmon leaping is not yet framed for a wall. I already know what it will be.
"He has planted Eternity in our hearts" is in Ecclesiates.
WE, have a desire planted within us, to go home to heaven. This world is our Lake, not our stream of origin, to which we will return at the end of life. My salmon leap picture will be titled "Eternity", with a script of the Bible verse added.
Make some shots at Kinzua Dam in Warren. I saw the old railroad series. Go back for the dam water cascading (January)and the trails you can walk backside behind the waters (October). Maybe next fall.
Our college campuses need recorded in each season. The buildings. The youth. The faculty. Let the world see what WE see in Erie, as you record what the brochures miss in Erie people and places.
Across from Peppino's Restaurant is a church I would like to photo someday. Behind and down the road (north)looks like a Norman Rockwell village and the steeple to another church worth capturing.
I like pictures of our local farmers bringin in hay. Some roll it like the Amish; some make cubes.
I do not know why. Both make astonishing pictures, especially when captured by the naked Earth left behind.
Let me think of a few more. I know this area well.
You said to ask for permission to use your pics. Tho the blog is available to peruse, there are several you have taken that bring memories of delight to me on my own visit there. May I capture those? Personal use only.
I have long preferred to comment on what I see, rather than be a celebrity up front on a blog. It allows more variety, skips the "I Know You" stuff at the store, and flexabilty of time.....I need to take care of some people.
Perhaps a blog one day....
A book is more likely.
Get down to those salmon soon. It is a good year and the season is going by.
Come back to the same spot in late spring. It is quiet, the place is loaded with flat stones, and the kids can "skip stones" (when the lake is flat and smooth) while you capture the fun. I did it with my girls already.
Ps. Try to get in the Warner Theatre. I would love a shot of their Blue Clock inside, and the entrance staircase to the side.
That Russian Church with the Golden Onion Dome down by Blasco Library has an appeal too. I can see the dome. Get some shots of what is inside if you can.

Those don't look like turkeys to me. But know I know why the vultures down here are called Turkey Vultures. They are big and black and scary.
I like the movement to the wings, makes him look like he indeed is ready to take off.
Oh my gosh, Amy, these photographs just scream Colonial America and Ben Franklin to me. Each shot becomes my new favorite. I'll trade you two herons for three wild turkeys. LOL

How wonderful! But now how are you going to have turkey for Thanksgiving? Especially after seeing that character in the 2nd to last photo. I was actually also tagged by Becky, and will post it today. . . but I'm reading more than one book, so you solved my problem and I'll use one of them for you tomorrow.
Great shots, I love the pretty leaves in the background! And the wings shot is too cool! I just started a new book today, so even though I did it yesterday, I'll do it again today. :)
