The Lazy Man's Guide to Gardening

Dan likes to garden. Actually, that's probably a little strong a statement. Dan likes there to be flowers in the yard. He's cool with preparing some area, to an extent. He's cool with making holes and planting things. He's cool with transplanting things from one place to another. Not so cool with the weeding or the making things look balanced and symmetrical. But that's not really a problem with me. I like there to be flowers in the yard too, but I'm even less willing than he is to put much effort into it. Thank goodness they make something for people like us: wildflower seeds in a can. A few months ago, Dan sprinkled them around and then let them be. Now, we have a lot of flowers around the house.
Behind the overgrown, er, I mean abundant flower plot, we have a row of hostas just starting to bloom.
We've gotten some really pretty blooms from that can!
Of course, it's getting a little crowded for my poor little garden gnome.

Hey at least your hubby likes to do work. I can't even get mine to take out the trash. I'll have to get some of those wildflowers in a can. I can even manage to plant those.

Amy, think of it as an English garden--they are designed to be absolutely crammed with flowers. And I think your gnome looks very happy, hiding in the foliage, trying to blend in.

haHA to that shot of your gnome--great peek. You have nasturtiums! I love the English garden look of your flower beds.

Dan is a sensible man with an extraordinary name too.

Anyone who has a passion for wildflowers is a person worth knowing.

Many years ago, I formed a habit of identifying various women with a particular flower. I had met the garden variety petunia, marigold, and pansy.

I was enthralled with the hidden mysteries of an iris I met.

And a lilac will turn my head every time! What fragrance!

There was a gladiolus; sharp and colorful at first but waxy and bland over time.

I even met a lily-of-the-valley, delicate, sensitive, and fragrant in life.

Sometimes, a flower can be confusing. I once dated what I thought was an impatien. Turns out, she was a venus-fly-trap, and I was one lucky guy to escape!

When I have mentioned this to others,---women as flowers--- invariably I am asked "What kind of flower am I"? I have learned this is treacherous conversation unless handled adroitly.

"You are a wildflower", I announced to one wildflower.
I guess she deemed herself an orchid, for the expression on her face could not have been more disappointed.

It pays to know your wildflowers!

"Do you know why you are a wildflower to me", said I.

"No".

"Because of all the flowers, wildflowers are among my favorite. And, of all the wildflowers, my favorite of those is the "Forget-Me-Not".

She signs every letter with a simple "Wildflower"...followed by a smile... :)

A Dan can never have too many flowers in his garden.
The wisest of Dan's have many, many Forget-Me-Nots on hand.

Nice pics!
Keep snappin' Amy.

amy,

why don't you consider backing off the old man?

i can't imagine you on the cover of "getting things done" magazine considering it took 4 months to get your crappy music to play.

i like how you sprinkled the red flowers towards the front...
